Shuei-Do has always been one of my go tos for homemade mochi in the Bay Area and even more so now that Benkyodo closed down.
Highly recommend the butter mochi, white bean mochis, Monaka, and if you’re curious to try other ones, kinako.
They do run out on the weekends and towards the end of the day.
While mochi is vegan/ gluten free, they sometimes use non gluten free and dairy ingredients.

One of the only Japanese parts of Japantown. The rice flour mochi is so smooth and chewy that I prefer it as a standalone without any filling, ie. the chi chi dango - looks just like a Turkish Delight). They also have butter mochi which basically tastes like the kind people used to make for bake sales by pouring ? mochi flour into brownie pans.

Their bean paste, azuki whole beans, or peanut fillings are too sweet for me. But don't get me wrong, they are very traditional and finely crafted. My favorite of these would be the lima bean ones although the peanut one is said to be the most popular if you want to try that.

Delicious and reasonably priced ($20 for a box of 8) — very soft and loved the filling: our favorites were the Azuki (red bean paste) and Lima (white bean paste). My kids also loved the peanut butter and raspberry chi chi dango

$0.50 for parking 15 minutes and $2.50 a piece.

They accept credit cards and the line does go through pretty quickly.

Great manju and friendly efficient service.

Delicious fresh mochi! It's a small place with a walk up window for ordering which was unexpected, but the prices are reasonable and the quality is very good. I prefer traditional mochi (habutai), but the green tea was really good too. My friend wanted the peanut butter and brown inaka, but I think the habutai is definitely better imo.

Hands down the best mochi and manju I've had anywhere in the world. The mochi is the softest you'll ever have and the quality is incredible. Staff are friendly and quick. This place is an institution and we're happy to be a second generation of customers. Wish it was located in our hometown so we could visit regularly.

Ordering and pickup experience was smooth - I would highly recommend calling or emailing the shop the day before to pre-order as you can skip the long lineups.

I was very excited to try this place as it was so highly rated. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations, especially for the relatively high price of each mochi piece. The mochi was also extremely sweet to the point that I could not bear to eat more than one bite of some of the mochi. It might be great for those who have a sweet tooth, but not those who prefer a milder flavor.
