This review is about the Shuaijiao training. It is a wonderful experience. Everyone is very welcoming. The instructor, Sifu Nick Masi, seems to know​ hundreds if not thousands of throws, and from every angle. Sometimes I have asked, "What if my opponent is in this position," and Nick will demonstrate a throw as well as a counter. I highly recommend the program.

Outstanding school. Been studying the martial arts from across the world my whole life and I consider this place a rare gem. Besides their Krav courses, I highly recommend their Saturday Shuai Jiao class. Most people can't handle sticking with Shuai Jiao over the long-term, but if you are one of the few, there are legit fighting skills to be earned in this rare art that is hyper-focused on throwing.

Outstanding facility. I have been absent from training for a while but I started my Krav-Maga journey 10 years ago. Nick is a very thoughtful, intelligent, and respectful instructor. He accepts you as you are and supports you in whatever you want to accomplish. Ann is always supportive and makes everyone feel welcome. Paul, Chris, Sam, and Pete have all risen through the ranks not only are they skilled they are good people as well. There are more great instructor there but there are too many to list.
In summary if you're interested in being part of a family focused on improving fitness, confidence, and the ability to defend yourself, First Defense is a great place to go.

Nick is an amazing instructor! As first timers to
Krav Maga my husband and I were not quite sure what to expect, but Nick’s training methods were easy to learn, fun and effective. He is really great at making the class light and integrating humor, but still getting the concepts across. He’s always willing to help one on one to ensure everyone understands and is using proper technique. If you aren’t sure if Krav Maga is for you, I highly recommend giving it a try with Nick and his studio!

First Defense Krav Maga is hands down five star! Their instruction is top notch. They’ll meet you at whatever level you are - from a complete beginner to expert - they accommodate and you’ll be better for it. As an extra bonus, they are extremely welcoming and make it fun too. All class ages and they have recently added a great class for people with injuries and/or who need less intensity. It is a second home and I’m lucky to have this great school nearby.

I have been training at First Defense Krav Maga since 2014. My experience there has been top notch. When I first started at FDKM I expected I’d learn self-defense and probably get some good exercise. While that’s been the case, I’ve gotten so much more out of my classes there. Besides learning the actual Krav Maga techniques and tactics, my self-confidence, decision making skills, and reflexes have improved tenfold. Nick, a co-owner, who has the patience of a saint, is an amazing instructor and practitioner. He’s great at adapting his instruction to meet individual students’ needs and abilities. FDKM is also extraordinary in how it welcomes and encourages people from all walks of life to learn to defend themselves. Ann (the other co-owner) and Nick offer several levels of classes for very young kids to older adults. There are classes for those who are just beginning, as well as for intermediate, and advanced students. IMHO, there is a place for everyone at First Defense Krav Maga. Love this place!
