My husband and I took the two-day class over the weekend with our teenagers. We left feeling empowered and knowing our kids will have more tools to protect themselves should they ever need to out in the world. The instructors are very knowledgeable and were able to teach a lot of technique in a short amount of time, at a pace that was challenging but not too overwhelming. It was a great experience to do this as a family. We feel much gratitude for all the instructors.

I took a self defense class here a few weeks ago and I am so happy that I did. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and not only taught me the physical aspects of self defense but verbal skills to use to de-escalate to potentially avoid conflict all together. They presented us with very real scenarios like catcallers, people on public transit, and even situations involving friends and coworkers. I feel more confident in my surroundings and ability to act if needed when presented with a scary situation. Would highly recommend if you've been considering it.

My family had a great experience with DC Self Defense!
Being a part the dojo was a big part of my son Aiden’s development (8 years old). The focus on taking responsibility, respect, bullying and being confident are just a few of things we really appreciated! Alexa, our younger daughter (5 years old), also picked up on the life lessons that were taught as she watched her brother take karate. And, when we talk about who is the strongest person we know, it's Sensei. I would recommend DC Self Defense.

I recently took a 5 hour introductory self-defense class with DC IMPACT. The instructors made our group feel comfortable and confident in the knowledge that we can use our minds, voices and bodies to set boundaries and be safe. Thank you Carol, Rick and Tim for your expertise and allowing us to practice real life full force self defense techniques.

I started Karate 26 years ago when my son was 3 years old. When I left, after only a few years, I had achieved a white belt with 5 black stripes. My wife and I moved to Maryland and I continued on, to earn a black belt in a different school. My roots in DC Self Defence Karate Association we’re so deep and my experience so intense that I stayed in touch with the school the entire 26 years and returned after 18 years to learn Krav Maga. I now “give back” to the magnificent Spirit that directs the school, Sensei Carol Middleton. The seeds of achievement and discipline have lasted me through my career with the U. S. Marshals and beyond. Sensei Middleton, you have spent over 40 years empowering minds and bodies. I salute you and bow, with humility, to your achievements and contributions to the physical and mental empowerment of the families in and around our Nations Capitol. Proud to be an eternal student and alumnus.

I took this class as a way to prepare for college and it was wonderful! Carol and her team were ready to help at each step of the way and ensure that everyone was learning and practicing the skills necessary for self-defense. Would definitely recommend!

BUYER BEWARE:
The school has been reported to the DC Government and Better Business Bureau for predatory behavior, illegal construction, operating without a business license and more.
One of the 5-star reviews was written by an employee (Jessica Neagle).
Drug deals in front of the school are commonplace and there is a liquor shop next door.
